Veremey

Veremey is a fictional city and regional capital located on the northern coast of the continent of Eloria. It functions as a major maritime and cultural center with a long history of trade.

The city sits at the mouth of the Ver River, with a protected harbor and a temperate, windy climate. The surrounding hinterland supports industries in timber and agriculture.

Founded by merchants from the coastal leagues, Veremey grew as a trade entrepôt. It prospered under successive city-states, endured conflicts in the Great War, and underwent major reconstruction following the 16th century.

Veremey is the seat of the Veremayan District and is governed by a mayor and municipal council elected for four-year terms. The city operates a council-manager bureaucracy to handle planning and services.

The population is diverse, with speakers of Veremeyan and a common trade tongue. The economy centers on the harbor, shipyards, logistics, and crafts such as textiles and glassware. The Veremeyan University and research institutes contribute to maritime engineering and the arts.

Notable sites include the Grand Market Quarter, the Old Harbor, the Hall of Mirth, and the Lighthouse of Sable. The Veremeyan Academy of Arts maintains stages and galleries throughout the city.

The port handles ferries to nearby islands and cargo routes. A rail spur connects Veremey to inland towns, complemented by an extensive bus network. Institutions include Veremey University and the Conservatory of Arts.
