Vedetäjäähdytystä, known in English as water cooling, is a method of thermal management used to dissipate heat generated by electronic components. This technique involves circulating a coolant, typically water or a water-based mixture, through a closed-loop system to absorb heat from components and transfer it to a radiator where it can be released into the surrounding environment.

The core components of a typical water cooling system include a water block, pump, reservoir, tubing, and radiator. The water block is mounted directly onto the component that needs cooling, such as a CPU or GPU. As the component heats up, the coolant flowing through the water block absorbs this heat. The pump then circulates the heated coolant to the reservoir, which stores the excess coolant and helps to remove air bubbles from the system. From the reservoir, the coolant is pumped through tubing to the radiator. The radiator contains fins that increase its surface area, allowing for efficient heat transfer from the coolant to the air. Fans are typically attached to the radiator to force air through the fins, accelerating the cooling process.

Water cooling is often employed in high-performance computing systems, gaming PCs, and servers where the heat output of components can be substantial and traditional air cooling methods may not be sufficient. Its advantages include superior thermal performance, potentially lower operating temperatures, and quieter operation compared to high-speed air cooling. However, water cooling systems are generally more complex, expensive, and require more maintenance than air coolers. There is also an inherent risk of leakage, which could damage sensitive electronic components.
