Varastointiverkostot, known in English as storage networks, refer to a sophisticated system of interconnected hardware and software designed for storing and managing data across multiple storage devices. These networks enable efficient access, sharing, and protection of data for organizations of all sizes. The primary goal is to consolidate storage resources, making them available as a single, unified pool rather than managing individual disk drives.

Key components of a storage network include servers, storage devices (like hard drives or solid-state drives), and the network infrastructure that connects them. The network itself can be implemented using various technologies, such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, or Network Attached Storage (NAS). Fibre Channel is a high-speed network technology often used in large enterprise environments, while iSCSI allows storage traffic to be transmitted over standard Ethernet networks. NAS provides file-level access to data over a TCP/IP network.

Benefits of implementing storage networks include improved data accessibility, enhanced performance through load balancing and dedicated infrastructure, better disaster recovery capabilities with centralized backups and replication, and increased scalability by allowing for the easy addition of more storage capacity.
