Valodiodinäyttöteknologia, commonly known as LED display technology, refers to the use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to create visual displays. These displays are composed of numerous individual LEDs that can emit light of specific colors. By controlling the intensity and combination of these LEDs, a wide spectrum of colors and brightness levels can be produced, forming images and video.

The fundamental component is the LED itself, a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it. In display technology, these LEDs are often arranged in a grid. The density of these LEDs, measured in pixels per inch (PPI) or dot pitch, determines the resolution and clarity of the display. Smaller dot pitches result in higher resolutions and sharper images.

LED displays are known for their energy efficiency, long lifespan, and vibrant color reproduction. They can achieve high contrast ratios, meaning the difference between the brightest whites and darkest blacks is significant, leading to more lifelike imagery. These characteristics make them suitable for a wide range of applications, including televisions, computer monitors, digital signage, large-scale video walls, and even automotive lighting.

There are several variations of LED display technology, such as LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens that use an LED backlight to illuminate liquid crystals, and OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) displays where each pixel is an organic LED that emits its own light, offering even greater contrast and faster response times. The continuous advancement in LED technology is driving improvements in display performance, efficiency, and form factor.
