Valdia

Valdia is a fictional sovereign state used in world-building and speculative fiction. It lies on the western coast of the continent of Eldara, covering about 120,000 square kilometers and housing roughly 4.8 million people. The terrain ranges from the northern highlands and forested valleys to the fertile central plains and a 320-kilometer coastline along the Caldera Sea. The climate varies from cool, damp conditions in the highlands to warm, dry summers along the coast.

Valdia's modern political system is a constitutional republic. Independence was achieved in the 19th century after the dissolution of the Eastward Empire. The present constitution, adopted in 1991, creates a parliamentary framework with a president serving as ceremonial head of state and a prime minister who leads the government. The unicameral Assembly of Valdia, with 84 members, is elected for four-year terms. The judiciary operates independently, and state institutions uphold secular governance and civil liberties.

Demographics identify Valdians as the majority ethnic group, with Calorians and other minorities making up the rest. The official language is Valdian; regional communities preserve Calorian and other languages. Literacy is high, and urban areas concentrate around the capital Valis and the major metropolis Norhaven.

Economy and infrastructure: Valdia has a diversified economy driven by wine production, timber, electronics components, and services. It has a growing tourism sector and an expanding renewable energy program focused on hydro, wind, and solar power. Transport relies on an integrated rail network, ports on the Caldera Sea, and modern roads connecting the interior to coastal markets.

Culture and notable sites: Valdia has a tradition of literature, craftwork, and music. Important sites include the capital Valis’ Old Quarter, the Mount Kerran ridge, and the Silver Coast wine region.
