Vaarantavia is a fictional country in the northern archipelago of Eldoria, created for world-building and speculative fiction. The name reflects a maritime heritage and rugged highlands, drawn from imagined languages.

Seven main islands and a continental peninsula form its core. The coastline is jagged, with coves, fjords, and basalt sea cliffs. The landscape includes conifer forests, volcanic highlands, and agricultural lowlands. The climate is temperate maritime, with cool summers and ample rainfall.

Established in the mid-12th century by fisher clans, Vaarantavia grew through trade and alliance. It gained a constitutional charter in 1824 and joined the Eldorian Confederation in 1891. The 20th century saw rapid modernization and a peaceful transition to democracy, with a focus on environmental stewardship.

Today it is a semi-presidential republic. The President serves as head of state, while the Prime Minister leads the cabinet. The parliament consists of two houses: the Assembly of Regions and the Council of Veils. Courts are independent, with a Supreme Court supervising constitutional law. Public officials are elected or appointed through formal processes.

Key sectors include fishing, aquaculture, seafood processing, shipbuilding, forestry, and tourism. Renewable energy projects, notably offshore wind and tidal arrays, are expanding. The economy emphasizes sustainable growth and regional trade.

Vaarantavian is the official language; Arlish and Selk are minority languages. Cultural life centers on coastal markets, maritime festivals, and traditional shipbuilding. Education and healthcare are publicly funded, and regional communities retain distinct dialects and crafts.

Dragon Spire on Karth Island and the Green Spine mountain range are iconic landscapes, while the Old Harbor of Pelora is a historic port district.

The population is around 2.0 million, concentrated in coastal cities and the mainland. Transport relies on ferries, bridges, a regional rail network, and two international airports.
