Vaahtomuovipakkaukset, or foam packaging, refers to protective packaging materials made from various types of foam. These materials are commonly used to cushion and secure products during shipping and handling, preventing damage from impact, vibration, and shock. The most prevalent types of foam used in packaging include polyethylene (PE) foam and polyurethane (PU) foam, as well as expanded polystyrene (EPS), often recognized by its brand name Styrofoam.

Polyethylene foam is known for its resilience and shock absorption properties, making it suitable for protecting fragile items like electronics and medical equipment. Polyurethane foam, on the other hand, offers excellent cushioning and can be molded into intricate shapes for custom-fit protection. Expanded polystyrene is lightweight and offers good insulation, often used for packaging appliances and food items that require temperature control.
