VRod

V-Rod is a family of Harley-Davidson motorcycles that was introduced in 2001. Developed in collaboration with Porsche, the V-Rod line represented Harley-Davidson’s foray into liquid-cooled, high-performance V-twin motorcycles and was positioned to offer a more modern, sport-oriented riding experience within the Harley lineup.

Design and engineering aspects include a liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin engine, a contemporary chassis, and components geared toward stronger mid-range torque and smoother power delivery than traditional Harley air-cooled designs. The engines were part of the VRSC family and were paired with advanced fuel-injection systems, conventional hydraulic brakes, and a sportier riding posture to appeal to riders seeking performance-oriented cruisers.

Models and variants within the V-Rod line evolved over time, with several versions released to offer different styling cues and equipment. Early versions emphasized exposed, muscular styling, while later variants provided blackout finishes, upgraded brakes, and refined handling characteristics. The line also included special editions and variants aimed at enhancing aesthetics and rider appeal without straying far from the core V-Rod design philosophy.

Production and legacy: Harley-Davidson produced the V-Rod family for over a decade, and the line helped broaden the brand’s image by introducing a modern, performance-focused option distinct from its traditional air-cooled cruisers.
