VMSstyle

VMSstyle is a design system and styling framework for the VMS platform. It provides a declarative language for theming and component styling, enabling consistent visuals across modules with a focus on accessibility and performance.

Core concepts include tokens for color, typography, spacing, and elevations; components such as buttons, inputs, cards, and alerts; and layouts that define grid and responsive behavior. The system supports light and dark themes and allows per-module overrides.

VMSstyle uses a declarative schema, typically expressed as token maps and component definitions. A runtime renderer translates these declarations into platform-specific styles for web, desktop, or embedded environments. Tokens provide a single source of truth for design decisions.

Tooling comprises a command-line compiler, a linter, and a live preview environment. The workflow integrates with version control and continuous integration. Accessibility checks, such as color-contrast validation and motion reduction, are integral to the framework.

Origin traces to the VMS UI toolkit project, with public releases beginning in the mid-2010s and subsequent major updates. It has been adopted across several VMS vendors and developer communities, contributing to UI consistency and faster theming, while presenting an initial learning curve.
