VGAliitännöissä, often referred to as VGA connectors, are a standard type of video output port commonly found on older computers and displays. The abbreviation VGA stands for Video Graphics Array, a display standard introduced by IBM in 1987. These connectors are characterized by their trapezoidal shape and typically feature 15 pins arranged in three rows.

The primary function of a VGAliitäntä is to transmit analog video signals from a graphics card to a monitor or projector. This analog nature means that the signal can be susceptible to degradation over longer cable runs, potentially leading to image quality issues such as ghosting or color distortion. Despite this limitation, VGA was widely adopted due to its simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

VGAliitännöissä are secured with two thumbscrews, which help to ensure a stable connection and prevent the cable from accidentally becoming disconnected. While still present on some modern devices for backward compatibility, VGA is gradually being replaced by digital alternatives like HDMI and DisplayPort, which offer superior image quality, higher resolutions, and additional features. The transition to digital connectors reflects the increasing demand for higher fidelity video transmission in computing and home entertainment.
