Uskallatten

Uskallatten is a rural municipality and parish located in the northern part of Valeria, a fictional Nordic country. The municipality covers an area of about 120 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 2,400 in 2023. It is characterized by a mixed landscape of forests, lakes, and agricultural land.

Geographically, Uskallatten sits along the Uskal River and includes several small lakes, the largest being Lake Luoto. The climate is subarctic with cold winters and relatively mild summers. About 30 percent of the land is designated as protected forest and nature reserves.

Uskallatten is governed by a municipal council of 15 members elected for four-year terms. The executive is led by a mayor. The municipality collaborates with neighboring municipalities on shared services such as education, transportation, and emergency management.

Economy relies on forestry, small-scale agriculture, and tourism. Local employers include a timber processing cooperative, dairy farms, and guesthouses around Lake Luoto. The transportation network consists mainly of regional roads; there is no passenger rail service within the municipality.

Historically, Uskallatten developed as a parish in the 16th century, with most of its early activity centered on timber and timber-related trade. It gained municipal status in the late 19th century during administrative reforms and has since grown modestly while retaining a rural character.

Cultural life centers on outdoor activities, local crafts, and the annual midsummer festival. Notable landmarks include the 15th-century Uskallatten Church, the Old Sawmill Site, and the Uskal Nature Reserve.
