Upravljanje

Upravljanje is a term used in South Slavic languages to denote the act or discipline of managing, governing, and controlling resources to achieve predefined goals. It derives from the verb upravljati, meaning to steer, guide, or direct. In organizational contexts, upravljanje refers to the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling activities within an entity such as a company, government agency, or non-profit organization.

Core functions align with the classical management framework. Planning involves setting objectives, determining necessary actions, and allocating resources. Organizing means establishing structures, assigning tasks, and coordinating activities. Leading (or directing) covers motivating people, communicating, and guiding teams toward objectives. Controlling ensures performance is measured, deviations are identified, and corrective actions are implemented. Modern upravljanje also emphasizes decision-making under uncertainty, governance, risk management, and accountability.

Upravljanje can be applied across domains. In business, it includes strategic management, operations management, and project management. In public administration, it relates to governance, policy implementation, and service delivery. In information technology, it encompasses service management, project governance, and resource management. Across all domains, effective upravljanje requires clear goals, adequate resources, skilled leadership, robust processes, and transparent reporting.

Challenges include rapid technological change, globalization, ethical considerations, and sustainability. While the word is closely related to leadership, upravljanje focuses on coordinating resources and processes to achieve results within a structured system.
