Unmanliness

Unmanliness is a term used to describe behaviors, characteristics, or appearances that are perceived as deviating from traditional or socially constructed expectations of masculinity. It is not a clinical diagnosis but rather a social construct used to critique or label individuals, particularly men, who do not conform to dominant masculine norms. The concept often carries negative connotations, implying weakness, effeminacy, or a lack of masculine qualities such as strength, stoicism, or assertiveness.

The definition of what constitutes "unmanly" is highly subjective and varies significantly across cultures, historical periods, and individual perspectives. Historically, in many Western societies, traits associated with femininity, such as emotional expression, artistic pursuits, or a gentle disposition, have been labeled as unmanly. Similarly, a lack of physical strength or a disinterest in traditionally masculine activities like sports or combat could also be perceived as unmanly.
