Ultraljudsvåg

Ultraljudsvåg, also known as ultrasound, refers to sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. This limit is typically considered to be around 20 kilohertz (20,000 Hz). While humans cannot hear these frequencies, many animals, such as dogs and bats, can perceive and utilize ultrasound.

The generation of ultrasound involves specialized transducers, often made of piezoelectric materials. When an electric voltage is applied, these materials deform, creating vibrations that produce sound waves. Conversely, when ultrasound waves strike the transducer, they cause vibrations that generate an electric voltage, allowing for detection.

Ultrasound has a wide range of applications. In medicine, it is used for diagnostic imaging, allowing physicians to visualize internal organs and structures without invasive procedures. It is also employed in therapeutic treatments, such as breaking up kidney stones or accelerating tissue healing. In industry, ultrasound is used for non-destructive testing of materials, cleaning delicate objects, and sonar systems for navigation and detection. The shorter wavelengths of ultrasound allow for higher resolution imaging and detection compared to audible sound.
