Ukrwienie

Ukrwienie, in Polish often used synonymously with perfusion, is the process of supplying tissue with blood from the arterial system. It describes the overall blood flow through a region or organ and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients while supporting the removal of metabolic wastes. The term emphasizes the functional vascular supply rather than the anatomy of blood vessels alone.

The level of ukrwienie depends on several factors, including cardiac output, arterial pressure, vascular resistance, and the distribution of blood between organs. Local regulation occurs through autoregulatory mechanisms that adjust arteriolar tone in response to tissue needs, and through structural factors such as capillary density. Appropriate ukrwienie is essential for tissue viability; both global hypoperfusion (as in shock) and regional ischemia due to vessel obstruction can lead to injury or organ dysfunction.

Assessment of ukrwienie in clinical practice uses imaging and physiologic methods. Doppler ultrasound evaluates blood flow in large vessels and arteries, while CT perfusion, MR perfusion, and positron emission tomography (PET) estimate tissue-level perfusion. Common quantitative parameters include blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), and mean transit time (MTT). Changes in these parameters help diagnose ischemia, monitor stroke or myocardial infarction, and evaluate organ perfusion in various diseases.
