UNIAACL

UNIAACL, officially the United Nations International Alliance for Climate and Agriculture Leadership, is a non‑governmental organization established in 2012 to promote sustainable agriculture practices that mitigate climate change impacts. The alliance was founded by a coalition of climate scientists, agronomists, and policy experts who identified a need for a global platform that integrates climate science with agricultural development objectives. Initially headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, UNIAACL quickly expanded its regional desks to include offices in Washington, D.C., Brussels, and Jakarta as membership grew.

The organization operates under an executive board elected by a General Assembly of member institutions, which includes universities, research institutes, and environmental NGOs. The board appoints a Secretary‑General who oversees day‑to‑day operations, including program coordination, research publishing, and partnership development. Its flagship project, the Global Resilient Farming Initiative, implements carbon‑sequestration techniques across over 5 million hectares in Sub‑Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. In addition, the alliance annually publishes the Climate‑Agri Outlook, a peer‑reviewed journal that catalogs emerging trends and best practices in climate‑smart agriculture.

Through strategic collaborations with the World Bank, FAO, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, UNIAACL has secured over US$120 million in research grants and advisory contracts. The organization continues to expand its reach by engaging local communities, capacity‑building programs, and policy dialogues aimed at scaling climate‑smart agricultural solutions worldwide.
