Tyrehdyttämistä, a Finnish term, translates to "tire deflation" or "letting air out of tires" in English. It refers to the act of intentionally reducing the air pressure in vehicle tires. This can be done for various reasons, ranging from practical adjustments for specific driving conditions to deliberate acts of vandalism or protest.

In off-road driving, particularly on surfaces like sand or mud, slightly deflating tires can increase the contact area between the tire and the ground. This improved traction can help vehicles navigate challenging terrain more easily and prevent them from getting stuck. The process typically involves using a tire pressure gauge and a tool to release air, with drivers carefully monitoring the pressure to avoid damaging the tires or rims. Once back on solid ground, the tires are usually reinflated to their recommended pressure for safe road use.

Conversely, tyrehdyttämistä can also be a destructive act. It is sometimes used as a form of protest or vandalism, where individuals deflate the tires of vehicles to inconvenience or damage their owners. This act is often associated with environmental activism or political demonstrations, though it can also be a random act of mischief.
