Tuuric

Tuuric is a constructed language created for the fictional world of Eldara. It serves as the native tongue of the Tuur region and appears in literature, games, and media within that setting. The language was designed to encode social structure and cultural concepts through morphology and syntax.

Development and classification: Tuuric was created by linguist-writer Mira Kestrel between 2016 and 2022 as part of a worldbuilding project. It is a standalone language with agglutinative morphology and a general SOV base order, augmented by rich polite and honorific systems.

Phonology: Its phonology features five vowels (a e i o u) and a modest consonant set (p t k m n s l r w y). Syllables are typically CV or CVC with no final-consonant clusters; stress is usually on the penultimate syllable.

Grammar: Nouns mark case and number; articles are optional. Adjectives follow nouns. Verbs show aspect and mood through suffixes; tense is inferred from context or marked periphrastically. The language favors topic-prominent SOV sequences but allows discourse-driven reordering.

Writing system: Tuuric uses a 28-letter alphabet with diacritics; scripts draw on a stylized rune heritage. It is written left to right, with a Latin transliteration commonly used for learners and cross-world reference.

Dialects and usage: The main dialects are Northern, Central, and Coastal Tuuric. They differ in phonology and lexicon but remain largely mutually intelligible; coastal speech includes more loanwords from neighboring languages.

In fiction, Tuuric is used in royal decrees, folk songs, and everyday dialogue to reflect its speakers’ values and social distinctions.
