Tunumi

Tunumi is a traditional Inuit dog breed originating from the East Coast of Greenland. This unique canine was used by the indigenous Inuit people for centuries, primarily for herding and hunting purposes. The breed's name translates to'men's dogs' in the Inuktitut language, a testament to their historical role as companion and working animal for the male community.

Physically, Tunumi dogs are compact, with a sturdy build and a thick coat that protects them from the harsh Arctic conditions. Their coats are usually black, brown, or gray in color, allowing for camouflage in their natural environment. Adult Tunumi dogs typically reach a height of 18-22 inches (45-55 cm) and weigh between 50-70 pounds (23-32 kg).

In terms of temperament, Tunumi dogs are known for their loyalty, strength, and resourcefulness. They possess an innate ability to navigate the challenging terrain of the Arctic, making them well-suited to their original purpose as hunting and herding companions. Despite their powerful build, Tunumi dogs are not naturally aggressive, and they have been observed to form strong bonds with their human family members.

As a result of modernization and the decline of traditional hunting practices, the Tunumi breed is now critically endangered.
