Tulppaventtiileissä

Tulppaventtiileissä, commonly referred to as plug valves in English, are a type of industrial valve used for controlling flow in pipelines. They are characterized by a cylindrical or conical plug that rotates within the valve body. This plug has a passage through it, which when aligned with the pipeline, allows fluid to flow. When the plug is rotated 90 degrees, the passage is no longer aligned, and the flow is stopped. This simple yet effective mechanism makes them suitable for on-off applications.

The primary advantage of tulppaventtiileissä is their quick operation. A quarter-turn is all that is needed to open or close the valve, making them ideal for situations where rapid shut-off is required. They are also known for their robust construction and ability to handle high pressures and temperatures. The plug design offers good sealing capabilities, minimizing leakage. However, they are generally not recommended for throttling or precise flow control, as the flow path is not easily modulated.
