Trükisüsteemi refers to a printing system, encompassing all the components and processes involved in transferring an image or text onto a substrate, typically paper. This can range from simple, manual methods to highly automated, industrial-scale operations. The core principle of any printing system is the application of ink or toner to a surface through a controlled process.

Different types of printing systems exist, each with its own characteristics and applications. Offset printing is a common commercial method where the inked image is transferred from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. Digital printing, on the other hand, uses technologies like inkjet or electrophotography (laser printing) to directly apply ink or toner to the substrate, eliminating the need for plates. Flexography is often used for packaging and labels, employing flexible relief plates. Gravure printing is known for its high quality and is suitable for long print runs, using engraved cylinders. Screen printing involves pushing ink through a mesh screen onto the substrate, versatile for various materials.

The choice of printing system depends on factors such as the desired print quality, the volume of production, the type of substrate, and cost considerations. Each system involves a complex interplay of ink formulation, plate or screen preparation, press mechanics, and finishing processes to achieve the final printed product. Modern printing systems are increasingly sophisticated, incorporating digital workflows for greater efficiency and customization.
