Trittwebstuhl
Trittwebstuhl, or treadle loom, is a type of handloom operated by foot pedals. The loom consists of a sturdy frame, a warp beam at the back, a cloth beam at the front, and a heddle system mounted on one or more shafts. Each treadle is connected by cords, chains, or leather straps to the shafts. Pressing a treadle lifts a chosen combination of shafts, opening a shed between the warp threads. The weft is then carried through the shed with a shuttle and, on release, the shafts return to their rest position.
