Torzíthat

Torzíthat is a traditional textile weaving technique and the fabric produced by it, historically associated with the Torzian highland communities. The method combines a warp-faced base with a supplementary-weft pattern to create raised geometric motifs and a textured surface used in ceremonial dress and everyday textiles.

History: The technique developed in the Torzian highlands during the late medieval period and spread through trade networks. Guilds regulated patterns and techniques. Industrialization reduced production, but a revival began in the late 20th century through artisan cooperatives and regional museums.

Technique and materials: Commonly loom-based, using wool or linen. The warp is prepared, and a secondary weft carries patterning threads to create relief motifs. Dyes are plant-based, including madder for red and indigo for blue. The process requires precise control of drafts and shuttle passes to maintain pattern integrity.
