Toesösszenövés

Toesösszenövés, also known as syndactyly, is a congenital condition characterized by the fusion of two or more toes. This fusion can be partial or complete, involving the skin, soft tissues, and sometimes the bones of the digits. It is one of the most common congenital hand and foot anomalies.

The exact cause of toesösszenövés is not fully understood, but it is believed to result from errors in fetal development during the first trimester of pregnancy. Genetic factors are thought to play a role, as syndactyly can sometimes run in families, although it can also occur sporadically. It is not typically associated with other health problems, but in rare cases, it can be part of a larger genetic syndrome.

Diagnosis is usually made at birth through physical examination. Imaging techniques like X-rays may be used to determine the extent of bone fusion. Treatment for toesösszenövés is surgical and is typically performed between the ages of 1 and 2 years to allow for adequate growth and development. The surgical procedure involves separating the fused digits and reconstructing the skin, often using skin grafts from other parts of the body. The goal of surgery is to improve function, appearance, and to prevent long-term complications such as difficulty with footwear or altered gait. Prognosis after surgical correction is generally good, with most individuals regaining normal or near-normal function of their toes.
