Tjoint

A tee joint, or T-joint, is a joint in which one member intersects another at roughly a right angle to form a T shape. It is widely used in metal fabrication, woodworking, plastics, and piping, where it provides a connection between a main member and a branch.

In metalworking and welding, a tee joint is created by joining the end of a secondary piece to the face or edge of a main piece. The welds are typically fillet welds on the two sides where the pieces meet, though thicker materials may use groove welds or full-penetration root passes with backing. Proper fit-up, alignment, and surface preparation are important to reduce distortion and defects such as lack of fusion, undercut, or cracks.

In woodworking and light plastics, T-joints are usually formed with mechanical fasteners, glue, dowels, biscuits, or splines, sometimes reinforced with corner brackets or gussets.

In piping and plumbing, a tee fitting creates a branching connection and is a form of tee joint; it can be manufactured as a three-way connection with equal or unequal branch sizes and is joined by welding, brazing, or mechanical threading.

Design and standards: The strength and serviceability depend on material properties, geometry, and weld quality. Standards from organizations such as AWS, ASME, or ISO govern welding practices, tolerances, and inspection. Quality control may include visual inspection and nondestructive testing to verify penetration and continuity.
