Tirsdag

Tirsdag is the name for the second day of the week in Danish and Norwegian, corresponding to Tuesday. In Danish and in Norwegian Bokmål the form is tirsdag, while in Norwegian Nynorsk the form is tysdag. It is used in everyday language as well as in calendars to designate the day between Monday and Wednesday.

The name derives from Old Norse Týsdagr, which in turn comes from Proto-Germanic *Tiwazdagaz. It is named after the god Tyr (Tiw), a figure associated with law and war in Norse mythology. The naming of the weekday reflects the Germanic tradition of linking days to deities.
