Tiresallowing is a term that refers to the process of allowing air to escape from a tire, either intentionally or unintentionally. This can be done for various reasons, such as adjusting tire pressure for different driving conditions or due to a puncture or leak.

Intentionally lowering tire pressure is often done by off-road enthusiasts to increase the tire's contact patch with the ground, providing better traction on loose surfaces like sand, mud, or rocks. This is sometimes referred to as "deflating" or "airing down." For on-road vehicles, slight adjustments to tire pressure might be made to improve ride comfort in certain situations, though this is less common and can negatively impact fuel efficiency and tire wear.

Unintentional tiresallowing occurs when a tire loses air pressure due to damage. Common causes include punctures from sharp objects, valve stem leaks, or damage to the tire sidewall. A slow leak might result in a gradual decrease in tire pressure, while a more significant puncture can lead to rapid deflation. Both scenarios pose a safety risk, as underinflated tires can affect vehicle handling, braking, and increase the likelihood of a blowout. Regular checks of tire pressure are therefore recommended to ensure optimal performance and safety.
