Tienparannus
Tienparannus is a Finnish term referring to improvements and upgrades of road infrastructure intended to raise safety, capacity, and overall usability beyond routine maintenance. It encompasses a range of interventions such as resurfacing and rehabilitation of pavements, widening or adding lanes, improving geometric alignment, upgrading intersections and interchanges, enhancing drainage and winter maintenance, and installing safety features, lighting, signaling, and pedestrian or cyclist facilities. The concept is distinct from basic road maintenance (tienhuolto), which focuses on upkeep rather than capacity increases.
