Theärastajad

Theärastajad is a group of individuals who emerged in Estonia during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The name, roughly translating to "destroyers" or "wreckers," reflects their radical approach to environmental activism. They gained notoriety for their direct action tactics aimed at protesting what they perceived as destructive environmental practices.

Their activities often involved disrupting construction projects, particularly those they believed would harm natural landscapes or ecosystems. This included actions such as blockades, vandalism of equipment, and the occupation of protest sites. Theärastajad focused their attention on various issues, including logging in pristine forests, urban development encroaching on natural areas, and industrial pollution. Their methods were often controversial, leading to confrontations with authorities and landowners.

The group's peak activity coincided with Estonia's struggle for independence and the subsequent period of transition.
