Terinduksi

Terinduksi is an Indonesian adjective that means “induced” or “caused by a stimulus.” It is formed by attaching the prefix ter- to the root word induksi (induction), and is widely used in Indonesian scientific literature to describe processes, phenomena, or reactions that are triggered by external or internal factors. The word is applicable across a broad range of disciplines, including chemistry, physics, biology, and medicine.

In chemistry, terinduksi describes chemical reactions or phase changes that occur upon exposure to a particular reagent, temperature, pressure, or electric field. For instance, “reaksi terinduksi oleh radiasi UV” refers to a reaction that initiates when ultraviolet light is applied. In pharmacology, “fenomena terinduksi senyawa” denotes a biological effect produced by a drug or compound. In physiology, “tanda-tanda terinduksi saraf” indicates nerve responses that are provoked by stimuli such as touch or pain.

The construction is generally followed by the preposition oleh (by) or oleh suatu faktor (by a factor) to indicate the inducer. It is common in Indonesian academic papers, curricula, and laboratory reports: “Perubahan struktur terinduksi oleh suhu tinggi” (Structural changes induced by high temperature) or “Pertumbuhan sel terinduksi oleh faktor pertumbuhan” (Cell growth induced by a growth factor).

While terinduksi is specific to Indonesian, the concept corresponds to the English term “induced” and the Latin root “inductio.” The word reflects the language’s tendency to form scientific adjectives by prefixing ter- to a noun, following the pattern seen in terms such as terhubung (connected), terpasang (installed), and terhambat (blocked). Because it is a syntactic construction rather than a borrowed word, terinduksi is readily understood by speakers of Indonesian who are familiar with scientific or technical contexts.
