Tepenbesyodítás is a Hungarian term that translates roughly to "horse grooming" or "horse preparation." It refers to the series of tasks performed to ensure a horse is clean, healthy, and presentable, especially before riding or a competition. This process is a fundamental aspect of horse care and involves several distinct steps.

The primary goal of tepenbesyodítás is to remove dirt, mud, sweat, and loose hair from the horse's coat, mane, and tail. This is typically done using a curry comb, a dandy brush, and a body brush. The curry comb is used first to loosen dirt and mud, followed by the dandy brush to sweep away larger debris. Finally, the body brush is used to remove finer dust and to create a smooth, shiny coat. Special attention is paid to the hooves, which are cleaned with a hoof pick to remove stones and packed dirt, preventing potential problems like thrush.

Beyond simply cleaning, tepenbesyodítás also serves to check for any injuries, skin irritations, or parasites that might be present on the horse. The grooming process allows the handler to thoroughly examine the horse's body, identifying any lumps, cuts, or sensitive areas.
