Tempestas

Tempestas is a genus of large, predatory birds of prey found in the Americas. There are two recognized species within the genus: the Northern Harrier (Circus hudsonius) and the Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus).

Northern Harriers are medium-sized birds with a distinctive white rump and tail, and a brown back and wings. They are known for their acrobatic flight, which includes soaring and diving, and their ability to hunt a variety of prey, including small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Sharp-shinned Hawks, on the other hand, are smaller and more agile, with a gray-brown back and a white rump and tail. They are known for their sharp, hooked beaks and their ability to perch on branches and hunt from a stationary position.

Both species are found in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and deserts, and are known for their adaptability and resilience. They are also important indicators of environmental health, as their populations can be affected by changes in prey availability and habitat quality. Despite their widespread distribution and abundance, both species are currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, although their populations may be declining in some areas due to habitat loss and other factors.
