Televiisoreita, commonly known as televisions, are electronic devices used to receive broadcast signals and display moving images and sound. The first television systems were developed in the early 20th century, with regular broadcasts beginning in the late 1920s and 1930s. Early televisions were mechanical, but they were soon replaced by electronic cathode ray tube (CRT) technology. These CRT televisions dominated the market for decades, characterized by their bulky design and curved screens.

The advent of flat-panel displays revolutionized television technology. Liquid-crystal display (LCD) and plasma technologies offered slimmer profiles and larger screen sizes. More recently, light-emitting diode (LED) backlighting has become standard for LCD TVs, improving picture quality and energy efficiency. Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology represents another significant advancement, offering superior contrast ratios and wider viewing angles due to its self-emissive pixels.

Modern televisions often include smart capabilities, allowing them to connect to the internet and access streaming services, apps, and web browsing. High-definition (HD) and ultra-high-definition (UHD), also known as 4K, resolutions have become standard, providing significantly sharper and more detailed images than older standard-definition sets. The evolution of televisions continues with ongoing research into new display technologies and enhanced user experiences.
