TeVnivåer

TeVnivåer refers to energy levels measured in teraelectronvolts (TeV). An electronvolt (eV) is a unit of energy commonly used in particle physics, representing the energy gained by an electron accelerated through an electric potential difference of one volt. A teraelectronvolt is equal to one trillion (10^12) electronvolts.

These extremely high energy scales are relevant in experiments conducted at particle accelerators, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). At TeVnivåer, physicists collide particles at nearly the speed of light, creating conditions that existed fractions of a second after the Big Bang. The purpose is to probe the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces that govern them, seeking to discover new particles and phenomena beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.

Discoveries at these energy levels have been crucial. For instance, the discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC, with a mass corresponding to an energy around 125 GeV (gigaelectronvolts, 10^9 eV), was a monumental achievement. While 125 GeV is significantly lower than TeVnivåer, the LHC operates and explores phenomena up to energies in the multi-TeV range. Studying particle interactions at TeVnivåer allows scientists to investigate phenomena like supersymmetry, extra spatial dimensions, and the nature of dark matter. The precise measurement and interpretation of events occurring at these high energies are fundamental to advancing our understanding of the universe.
