Tattico

Tattico is an Italian adjective meaning related to tactics or designed for tactical purposes. It is used to describe plans, actions, or approaches organized to achieve specific short-term goals. The term derives from Latin tacticus, via French tactique and from Greek taktikos, meaning pertaining to arrangement or order.

In military and defense contexts, tattico refers to the level of planning and execution aimed at achieving immediate, local objectives, as opposed to strategico, which concerns broader, long-term aims. A tattico plan or decision focuses on resources, positioning, and maneuvers within a limited timeframe, often in response to an adversary's actions.

In sports, business, and other competitive fields, tattico describes a coach's or organization's tactical approach, including formations, play sequences, or allocation of tasks designed to exploit weaknesses or adapt to conditions. The noun tattica (tactics) and the adjective tattico are common, as in "una mossa tattica" or "soluzione tattica" to refer to a strategic, but short-term, choice. In chess, players rely on tactical motifs such as forks, pins, and discovered attacks, all described as tattiche.

Because it lacks moral valence, tattico can be neutral: you can say "una decisione tattica" vs "una decisione strategica." The term appears in sports commentary, military textbooks, and management literature, reflecting a spectrum from micro-level actions to broader strategic planning.
