Tartsen

Tartsen is a town and municipality in the coastal region of Nordmark. It lies on the delta of the Tarse River, about 80 kilometers north of the regional capital. The landscape includes coastal dunes and marshes, and the climate is temperate maritime with mild summers and cool winters.

Tartsen originated as a medieval fishing village and grew through shipbuilding and harbor trade in the 18th and 19th centuries. A railway link in the early 20th century contributed to modernization, and the economy later diversified toward services and tourism.

The local economy centers on fishing and seafood processing, maritime services, and logistics. The port handles regional cargo and supports fishing fleets.

The municipality includes the town and surrounding rural lands. It is governed by a directly elected mayor and a municipal council, with elections every four years.

The population is around 4,800 residents (as of 2023). The community speaks a Nordmarkic language, with small numbers of seasonal workers and migrants.

Notable features include the Old Ferry Pier and the Maritime Museum. The Tide and Sail festival, held each summer, draws visitors from neighboring towns.

Tartsen is accessible by regional roads and a ferry service to nearby coastal communities. The nearest railway station is in the regional capital, and a regional airport lies about 60 kilometers away.

Educational facilities include a primary school and a combined primary-secondary school. Higher education opportunities are available in larger nearby cities.
