Tarrakiinnikkeillä refers to adhesive fasteners, commonly known as Velcro or hook-and-loop fasteners in English. These fasteners consist of two distinct components: a strip of hooks and a strip of loops. When pressed together, the hooks engage with the loops, creating a strong but releasable bond. This mechanism allows for easy attachment and detachment, making them versatile for a wide range of applications.

The invention of this fastening system is attributed to Swiss engineer George de Mestral, who was inspired by burrs sticking to his dog's fur after a walk. He observed the tiny hooks on the burrs and replicated this design using materials like nylon and polyester. The development process took many years, leading to the patenting of the hook-and-loop fastener in 1955.
