Tarmdas

Tarmdas is a small town and municipality in the northern highlands of Veridia, a fictional country used for illustrative purposes. It serves as the administrative seat of Tarmdas Municipality, which covers the town center and several surrounding villages.

The name Tarmdas is of uncertain origin; local lore links it to a historic crossroads where two routes met. The town is situated on a high plateau at about 410 meters above sea level, beside the Tarmdas River. The surrounding landscape comprises mixed forests, terraced fields, and small orchards. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters and relatively evenly distributed rainfall.

Tarmdas is first documented in mid-14th-century records, where it functioned as a market node and bridge point. The arrival of the regional railway in the early 20th century spurred growth, though the line was later closed in favor of road transport. The local economy remains based on agriculture—grapes, olives, cereals—alongside small-scale manufacturing, forestry, and growing agrotourism.

As of the latest census, the municipality has roughly 2,100 residents. The population is predominantly Veridian in ethnicity, with the local Veridian language used alongside a regional dialect. The religious landscape includes a historic parish church and several chapels. Cultural life centers on an autumn harvest festival, weekly markets, and traditional crafts such as woodwork and pottery.

Governance is provided by an elected municipal council, with a mayor as chief executive. Public services include primary education, a community clinic, and access to a regional hospital. Transportation relies on regional roads, with a former railway station repurposed as a cultural venue. Local landmarks include the Tarmdas Gorge and an old stone bridge over the river.
