Tandkrämer

Tandkrämer, commonly known as toothpaste in English, is a paste or gel used with a toothbrush to clean and care for teeth. Its primary function is to remove plaque and food debris from the surfaces of teeth and gums, helping to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. Toothpaste typically contains a mild abrasive agent, such as hydrated silica or calcium carbonate, to help scrub away plaque and stains. A detergent, like sodium lauryl sulfate, is often included to create foam and help lift debris.

Fluoride is a key ingredient in most modern toothpastes. It helps to strengthen tooth enamel, making it more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and sugars, thus preventing cavities. The concentration of fluoride can vary depending on the product and its intended use. Other common ingredients include humectants to prevent drying, binders to thicken the paste, flavorings for taste, and sweeteners to make it more palatable. Some toothpastes also contain special ingredients to address specific dental concerns, such as tartar control agents, ingredients for sensitive teeth, or whitening agents.
