Tabaksteuer
The Tabaksteuer is a national duty imposed on the production and sale of tobacco products in Germany. It is levied as a tax on the retail price of cigarettes, rolled cigarettes, snuff, pipe tobacco and other combustible tobacco items. The tax is designed to raise revenue for the state, deter smoking through higher prices and support public health objectives by reducing tobacco consumption.
