TXpN

TXpN is a protocol specification designed for high-performance telemetry and remote control in distributed sensor and actuator networks. The protocol emphasizes low latency, compact binary framing, scalable addressing, and strong security across heterogeneous devices. TXpN is intended for use in industrial, environmental, and consumer‑grade networked systems where timely data delivery is critical.

Architecture and core features. TXpN uses a layered approach with a compact application header, a variable-length payload, and optional framing fields for reliability and compression. Messages include fields such as version, message type, length, source and destination identifiers, and a sequence number to enable ordering. The protocol supports unreliable and reliable delivery modes, congestion control, and optional message compression to reduce bandwidth for constrained links.

Transport, routing, and security. Routing can be performed by edge devices or a lightweight network layer, supporting unicast and multicast transmission. TXpN provides end‑to‑end security through AES‑256 encryption and optional digital signatures for source authentication. It includes replay protection and integrity checks to guard against tampering.

Implementations and applications. Open‑source reference implementations exist in C and Rust, designed for embedded systems and moderate‑capacity gateways. TXpN has been deployed in testbeds for industrial automation, remote environmental monitoring, and smart‑grid pilot projects, where its low overhead and QoS features are advantageous.

Standardization and governance. The specification is maintained by the TXpN Consortium, an open, collaborative body that publishes technical documents and test suites. While not universally standardized, TXpN aims to complement existing protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, DDS, and AMQP by providing deterministic latency and tighter control of throughput in constrained networks.
