Süvaveenid

Süvaveenid, also known as deep veins, are a crucial part of the circulatory system, carrying deoxygenated blood from the body's organs and tissues back to the heart. They are located deeper within the body than superficial veins, often running alongside arteries. These veins are essential for returning blood to the lungs for oxygenation.

The major deep veins include those in the legs, such as the femoral veins and popliteal veins, which collect blood from the lower extremities. In the upper body, the subclavian veins and jugular veins are significant deep veins that return blood from the arms and head, respectively.

Unlike superficial veins, which are visible beneath the skin, deep veins are protected by muscle and bone. Their function is primarily to transport the bulk of the body's venous blood. The contraction of surrounding muscles plays a vital role in propelling this blood upwards against gravity. Valves within the deep veins prevent backflow, ensuring unidirectional movement towards the heart.

Problems with deep veins can lead to serious health conditions. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, most commonly in the legs. This can cause pain, swelling, and redness. A potentially life-threatening complication of DVT is pulmonary embolism, where a clot breaks off and travels to the lungs, obstructing blood flow. Conditions affecting deep veins highlight their importance in maintaining overall cardiovascular health.
