Sünteesaatorite, also known as synthesizers, are electronic musical instruments that generate audio signals. Unlike acoustic instruments that produce sound through physical vibrations, synthesizers create sounds by electronically manipulating waveforms. These waveforms, such as sine, sawtooth, square, and triangle waves, form the basic building blocks of sound.

The core of a synthesizer lies in its oscillator, which produces these fundamental waveforms. Filters are then used to shape the tonal quality of the sound by selectively removing or boosting certain frequencies. An amplifier controls the loudness of the sound, and an envelope generator shapes how the sound changes over time, affecting its attack, decay, sustain, and release.

Analog synthesizers generate sound using electronic circuits, producing warm and organic tones. Digital synthesizers employ digital signal processing to create sounds, offering a wider range of timbres and often greater precision. Software synthesizers, or VSTs (Virtual Studio Technology), are computer programs that emulate hardware synthesizers, providing immense flexibility and accessibility.

The versatility of synthesizers makes them prominent in a vast array of musical genres, from electronic dance music and pop to film scores and experimental compositions. They are capable of producing a near-infinite spectrum of sounds, allowing musicians to craft unique sonic landscapes and textures.
