Sünnitusprotsessiks, also known as childbirth or labor, is the complex biological process by which a fetus is expelled from the uterus through the vagina. This process is typically divided into three distinct stages.

The first stage of labor is characterized by the onset of regular uterine contractions that cause the cervix to dilate and efface (thin out). This stage is usually the longest and can vary significantly in duration. It is further divided into latent, active, and transition phases, each with increasing intensity of contractions and cervical changes.

The second stage of labor begins when the cervix is fully dilated and ends with the birth of the baby. During this stage, the mother typically pushes with her contractions to help move the baby down the birth canal. This stage can also vary in length, depending on factors such as the mother's experience with childbirth, the baby's position, and the presence of any medical interventions.

The third stage of labor involves the delivery of the placenta, also known as the afterbirth. After the baby is born, the uterus continues to contract, causing the placenta to detach from the uterine wall and be expelled. This stage is generally much shorter than the first two stages.

Throughout the entire process, healthcare providers monitor both the mother and the baby to ensure their well-being and intervene if necessary. The timing and progression of labor can be influenced by various factors, including maternal health, fetal position, and the presence of complications.
