Sügavõpe

Sügavõpe, often translated as deep learning, is a subfield of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks with multiple layers to learn complex patterns from data. These networks are inspired by the structure and function of the human brain, allowing them to process information in a hierarchical manner. Each layer in a deep learning model learns increasingly abstract representations of the input data.

The core idea behind deep learning is to automate feature extraction. Traditional machine learning often requires manual engineering of features, which can be time-consuming and requires domain expertise. Deep learning models, however, can learn relevant features directly from raw data, such as pixels in an image or words in a text. This capability has led to significant advancements in various fields.

Applications of deep learning are widespread and include image recognition, natural language processing, speech recognition, and autonomous driving. For instance, in image recognition, early layers might detect edges and simple shapes, while deeper layers combine these to identify more complex objects like faces or cars. In natural language processing, deep learning models can understand the meaning and context of sentences, enabling tasks like translation and sentiment analysis.

The success of deep learning is largely attributed to the availability of large datasets and powerful computing resources, particularly GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), which can efficiently handle the massive parallel computations required for training deep neural networks. Despite its successes, deep learning also faces challenges such as the need for vast amounts of labeled data and the "black box" nature of some models, making their decision-making processes difficult to interpret.
