Sähkösinkitty

Sähkösinkitty, also known as electrogalvanizing or electroplating with zinc, is a surface finishing process used to protect metal parts, most commonly steel, from corrosion. This method involves immersing the object to be coated into an electrolytic solution containing zinc ions. An electric current is then passed through the solution, causing the zinc ions to deposit onto the surface of the object, forming a thin, uniform layer of zinc.

The thickness of the zinc coating can be controlled by adjusting factors such as the current density, the duration of the plating process, and the concentration of zinc ions in the electrolyte. Sähkösinkitty is widely used for its cost-effectiveness and its ability to provide good corrosion resistance for many applications. It is particularly common for fasteners like screws, bolts, and nuts, as well as for sheet metal components and automotive parts.

While sähkösinkitty offers good protection, it is generally not as durable or corrosion-resistant as thicker zinc coatings like hot-dip galvanizing, especially in harsh environments. However, its aesthetic appeal and the ability to achieve a bright, smooth finish make it a popular choice for interior or less demanding exterior applications. The process can also be followed by chromate conversion coatings, which further enhance corrosion resistance and provide different color finishes.
