Szövegkeresési refers to the process of searching for specific text within a larger body of text. This is a fundamental operation in computer science and is employed in a wide variety of applications. The goal is to locate occurrences of a given pattern string (the "needle") within a larger text string (the "haystack").

There are numerous algorithms designed for text searching, each with its own trade-offs in terms of speed and memory usage. Simple algorithms, like the naive or brute-force approach, compare the pattern to every possible starting position in the text. While easy to understand, these can be inefficient for long texts or patterns. More advanced algorithms, such as the Knuth-Morris-Pratt (KMP) algorithm, Boyer-Moore algorithm, and Rabin-Karp algorithm, utilize pre-processing of the pattern or text to achieve faster search times. These algorithms often avoid redundant comparisons by skipping ahead in the text or by using hashing techniques.

Search engines on the internet rely heavily on sophisticated text searching techniques to index and retrieve relevant web pages. Additionally, text searching plays a crucial role in areas like data analysis, bioinformatics for finding DNA sequences, and in cybersecurity for detecting malicious patterns in code or network traffic. The efficiency and accuracy of text searching algorithms are key to the performance of these applications.
