Syvävetokaivaminen

Syvävetokaivaminen, also known as deep drawing, is a metal forming process used to shape sheet metal into a hollow object. It involves drawing a metal blank into a die cavity using a punch. The process typically starts with a flat circular or rectangular piece of metal. This blank is then placed over a die. A punch, which is shaped like the desired final product, presses down on the blank, forcing it into the die cavity. As the punch moves downwards, the metal flows and stretches, conforming to the shape of the die.

This technique is employed to create a wide variety of products, including automotive body panels, kitchen sinks, cookware, and various containers. The depth and complexity of the drawn part depend on factors such as the material's ductility, the lubrication used, and the design of the tooling. Materials commonly used for deep drawing include steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. The process requires precise control of forces and clearances to avoid defects such as wrinkling, tearing, or excessive thinning of the material.

Deep drawing can be performed in single-action or double-action presses. Double-action presses are often preferred for more complex shapes as they provide better control over the blank holding. The success of deep drawing relies on careful material selection, proper die and punch design, and accurate lubrication. It is a highly versatile manufacturing method that allows for the efficient production of seamless, three-dimensional parts from flat sheets.
