Synthetisiert

Synthetisiert is the past participle form of the verb synthetisieren in German. It denotes that a substance, compound or product has been produced by synthesis, i.e., by combining simpler components through chemical, enzymatic or other constructive processes. The term is frequently used in scientific and technical contexts and can apply to molecules, materials, data sets or processes that were created by synthesis rather than occurring naturally.

Etymology and sense

The word derives from the Greek roots syn- “together” and tithenai “to place,” through the term Synthetese and the German verb synthetisieren. In German, synthetisieren describes the act of forming a new substance or structure by assembling parts, often via chemical reactions, but also in biochemistry, materials science and data generation.

Usage and contexts

In der Chemie bezeichnet synthetisieren das Herstellen einer Verbindung aus einfachen Vorstufen durch Reaktionen. In der Biochemie spricht man von Proteinsynthese oder DNA-Synthese, wenn Bausteine zu größeren Molekülen zusammengesetzt werden. Der Begriff wird auch im Technologie- und Materialbereich verwendet, etwa bei der Herstellung synthetischer Polymere oder anderer künstlich erzeugter Produkte. Im Alltag bleibt die Formulierung seltener und man sagt eher „hergestellt“ oder „künstlich hergestellt“.

Grammatik

Als Partizip Perfekt wird synthetisiert mit haben gebildet: Die Verbindung ist synthetisiert worden. Als attributives Adjektiv kann man „synthetisierte Verbindung“ sagen. Das passende Gegenstück zum Gegensatz von Natürlichkeit ist „synthetisch“ versus „natürlich“.
