Synclavier

The Synclavier was a sophisticated digital synthesizer and sampling workstation developed by New England Digital (NED) starting in the late 1970s. It was one of the first commercially successful digital synthesizers and sampling systems, offering capabilities far beyond its contemporaries.

At its core, the Synclavier utilized a powerful custom-built digital signal processing system. This allowed for a wide range of synthesis methods, including additive synthesis and FM synthesis, as well as sampling of external sounds. The system was known for its high fidelity and detailed sound reproduction, a significant departure from the analog synthesizers of the era.
